Club Atletico Saint Louis was very close to launch a women's team in the WPSL summer 2023. The delay was due to launching a second men's team to ensure the longevity and quality of players in the club. After the men's second tryout this spring, a third team was added in the UPSL which will begin 2024.
Why is CASTL interested in launching a women's team? Because of our values of providing opportunities, while also filling voids in the St. Louis soccer community. The talent pool of women's soccer is immense says Ricardo.
The men's pool of soccer is clearly growing with less opportunities in St. Louis for off-season development for college players. We are happy to fill the void for U18-U23 players this summer. As strong as our men's talent is in the community, the women's level is just as big if not bigger. I've been on the recruiting trail the last couple years and I am amazed with the quality. The women's players are committing to colleges much earlier than men are due to the competitiveness in the women's game. I know we can handle another addition to our Club, and we want to receive the ladies the right way. This summer can be a launching point for 2024 by creating relationships with future players.
