Week 2 Wrap-Up: Expanding the Shape & Transition Rhythm
Week 2 Wrap-Up: Expanding the Shape & Transition Rhythm

We just wrapped up an incredible Week 2 of the Club Atletico Saint Louis U16 Summer Performance Program! Now that our training baseline and culture have been established, this week was all about building on our short combinations and challenging the players to recognize when to squeeze the opponent and when to dynamically expand the pitch.
The technical execution and tactical adaptions we saw from mid-week sessions straight into Friday's league matches show massive growth across all four squads.
Elite Collegiate Exposure
Our players continue to receive direct evaluation and high-level instructions from active college programs. This week's sessions featured hands-on leadership from:
Roosevelt Peters – Head Coach, Missouri Baptist University
Ricardo Garza – Head Coach, STLCC
Rob Cummings – Head Coach, Missouri S&T University
Austin Love – Asst Coach, Harris Stowe University
Matheus Silva – GK Coach, STLCC
Week 2 Curriculum Breakdown
Building off the principles established in Week 1 training, Week 2 pushed our players into more complex, game-like tactical scenarios:

Monday: College Technical (Expanding the Passing Network)
Transitioning from tight, short combinations into medium and long-range structural ball circulation.
Focusing on body shape to receive across the body and open up the weak side of the pitch.
Demanding high-tempo, crisp communication to dictate the rhythm of play.

Wednesday: Atlético Principles (Spatial Awareness & Relational Shifts)
Live training scenarios focusing on numerical superiorities ($3v2$ and $4v3$ transitions).
Teaching players how to manipulate defenders by localizing under pressure before rapidly attacking open vertical space.
Practicing immediate counter-pressing triggers the moment possession is lost

Friday: Summer League Match (Game 2 Evaluation)
Tactical Metric: Coaches monitored structural balance in possession—tracking how effectively teams shifted from compact, tight spaces to wide attacking structures without dropping their technical passing speeds under match pressure.
MOLIGA U16 League: Week 2 Results
Match Day 2 of the MOLIGA League delivered high drama, tactical adjustments, and fantastic competition as the teams began adjusting to each other's styles.
- Aguilas defeated Leones
- Lobos defeated Toros
Player Development Note
Match film from Friday's games is currently being processed by the league.
Next Steps for Players: Once the film link is sent out, dedicate 15 minutes to grading your own performance. Specifically, analyze your transition moments. Did you react immediately when your team won or lost the ball, or was there a delayed response? Film doesn't lie—use it to prepare your mind for Week 3!
