PREVIEW: CASTL travels to Arkansas for matchup with Ozark FC

by Peyton Rives

ST. LOUIS – Club Atletico Saint Louis (2-4-2) travels to Springdale, Arkansas for its second matchup with Ozark FC (1-4-3) this season on Saturday, June 29. The matchup is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on

The Bluebirds are coming off a solid 3-1 revenge victory over Demize NPSL, in which CASTL kept their playoff hopes alive with the win.

In the 6th minute of the game, Eric Lopez gave the Bluebirds the lead off a strike into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.

Lenny Hein scored in the 21st minute, his first goal of the season, to give CASTL some insurance. A late own-goal by Demize led to the third goal and solidified the Bluebirds victory.

With the win, the Bluebirds gained three points and moved up to fifth place in the Heartland Conference standings. Now with eight points, they are two points behind Little Rock and Demize.

In order to keep playoff hopes alive, CASTL will need to win at least one of their final two games. They have their first opportunity to gain some points this weekend against Ozark FC, who they previously defeated earlier this season, 5-0.

In that game, which was at home for the Bluebirds, CASTL was able to put all the pieces together and get a solid team victory.

Lopez scored twice in the first half, and in the second half, Adama Kante scored a hat trick to cement the win. The Bluebirds have never lost to Ozark, as the all-time series between the clubs is 2-0-1.

In the 2019 campaign, Ozark, led by head coach Scott Marksberry, has completed eight games thus far. Outside of their loss to CASTL, they defeated Little Rock, drew against Demize twice and FC Wichita and lost to Little Rock and Tulsa Athletic twice.

Jacob Zamarron leads the team with two goal. Closely behind him, Alex Buckley, Matheus Ferreira and Quinton Carey have each scored one on the season.

With six points, they sit in sixth place in the conference. They are also battling for one of the final playoff spots but will need to win out in order to qualify.

After Saturday’s match against Ozark, the Bluebirds return home for the final regular season home game, as they battle Tulsa. In that game, CASTL will be looking to avenge their 3-1 loss against Tulsa earlier on the season.
