PREVIEW: CASTL looks for revenge in rematch against Demize

by Peyton Rives

ST. LOUIS – Club Atletico Saint Louis (1-4-2) returns home for a matchup against Demize NPSL (2-1-4) on Wednesday, June 26, for the second time this season. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. at SLUH and will be streamed live on

Following a weekend game to FC Wichita, in which the Bluebirds fell, 5-0, on the road, CASTL is looking to bounce back in front of a home crowd.

Earlier in the season, CASTL fell to Demize, 1-0, on the road. In the fairly balanced match, Demize capitalized on a Bluebird miscue in the second half, and Matt Yankowitz scored, giving his team the lead. Neither teams scored for the remainder of the game leading to a Demize victory.

With a loss to Demize earlier in the season and a split of their two games last season, the all-time record between the clubs is 1-2-0.

Through seven games, Demize sits tied with Little Rock in third place in the Heartland Conference with 10 points. Outside of their victory over the Bluebirds, Demize also recorded a win against FC Wichita. They drew against Ozark FC twice, FC Wichita, Tulsa Athletic and lost to Little Rock.

Demize’s leading scorer is Gustavo Nascimento, who has scored three of the team’s six total goals. Marcelo Hernandez, Erik Soares and Matt Yankowitz have each scored one goal.

The team’s six goals rank fifth in the conference, but their defense is particularly strong, as the keeper has only allowed six goals this season, the best mark in the conference.

Demize tends to play low-scoring matches as their defense is stellar but the offense is more conservative.

The Bluebirds, in desperate need of a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, are looking to right the season with a revenge victory.

Following the game against Demize, CASTL will travel to battle Ozark and return home for a match against first-place Tulsa for the final game of the regular season.
