Preview: CASTL battles Tulsa for final game of regular season

by Peyton Rives

ST. LOUIS – Club Atletico Saint Louis (2-5-2) returns home for their final home game of the regular season, as they take on Tulsa Athletic (6-0-3) on Saturday, July 6 at 7:00 p.m.

Coming off a loss to Ozark FC, CASTL is looking to gain points in their last opportunity to do so before the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs.

Previously, the Bluebirds battled Tulsa on the road. In that game, Tulsa struck first in the 23rd minute, but CASTL managed to tie the game in the 56th minute. It was Tulsa who prevailed, as they scored two late goals to win.

Along with the victory over CAST, Tulsa has also defeated Little Rock twice, Ozark FC twice and Demize. They drew against FC Wichita twice and Demize. They have yet to lose a game.

The top four teams in the Heartland qualify for the playoffs. Tulsa has secured the top seed, as they lead the conference with 21 points. Little Rock has also qualified for the playoffs, as they are currently in second place with 13 points.

The remaining two spots are still up for grabs, as four teams are vying for two spots. In third place, FC Wichita has 11 points. Right behind them, Demize NPSL sits in fourth place with 10 points. One spot out of playoff contention is Ozark FC with nine points. The path to the playoff is simple for them. Win and they are in.

The path for the Bluebirds is a little more complicated. With eight points, the Bluebirds can only qualify if they win, Demize loses to Little Rock and Ozark loses or draws to FC Wichita.

If the Bluebirds manage to gain three points with a victory over Tulsa, they will await their playoff fate following the results of the other games.
