by Peyton Rives

ST. LOUIS – Club Atletico Saint Louis (1-3-2) hits the road for their second battle against FC Wichita (1-1-5) on the season. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23 at Stryker Stadium and will be streamed live on

After a 1-1 draw on the road against Little Rock, the Bluebirds had a week to practice and reflect on the game before turning their attention to Wichita.

In the 1-1 draw, CASTL and Little Rock were very balanced as the score indicated. The two teams were tied, 0-0, going into the half.

In the second half, the Bluebirds were the first to strike, as Josh Ward found the back of the net in the 52nd minute off of a pass from Alsadiq Hasan. The goal marked Ward’s first of the season. The lead didn’t last long, as Little Rock’s Lance Crabtree scored in the 62nd minute, tying the game.

Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the game and each team gained one point in the tie.

Now with only four games remaining, the Bluebirds take on FC Wichita for the second time this season. In their first matchup, the teams drew, 1-1, in the season opener for the Bluebirds.

In that game, both teams were fairly balanced. CASTL midfielder Liam Collins scored on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to give the Bluebirds to 1-0 lead. Wichita struck back quickly though, scoring in the 81st minute to tie the game.

Last season, the team’s split their two regular season games. In the Heartland Conference playoffs, Wichita defeated CASTL, meaning the all-time series record is 1-2-1.

The 2019 campaign for Wichita has been a season of draws. Along with their game against the Bluebirds, Wichita also drew against Demize, Ozark FC and Tulsa Athletic twice.

As a conference favorite, Wichita found themselves in the bottom of the standings through six games. However, after their latest 2-1 victory over Little Rock, Wichita sits in fourth place in the conference.

CASTL currently sits in fifth place, a spot out of playoff contention, meaning a win over Wichita would help their playoff chances. The Bluebirds would increase their point total to eight with a win.

Following the Wichita game, CASTL is set to rematch Demize NPSL, Ozark FC and Tulsa Athletic to close out the regular season.
