RECAP: Club Atletico Saint Louis drops road game to Tulsa, 3-1
TULSA, Okla. – Club Atletico Saint Louis (0-2-1) lost its road match against Tulsa Athletic, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon despite a strong showing for majority of the game.
In the first half, both CASTL and Tulsa (3-0-2) used their speed to get behind the defensive lines, but there were no goals through 20 minutes.
Tulsa was the first to strike, however, as Aboubakr Diallo found the back of the net in the 23rd minute to give Tulsa the 1-0 lead, which they held going into halftime.
With the second half underway, CASTL created a few more opportunities for a goal, but the Bluebirds were unable to convert on two corner kicks in the 55th and 56th minute.
With similar offensive woes in the past few games, CASTL knew it had to find some answers, and they did when Alsadiq Hassan finally became eligible for his first game of the season.
His role was immediately felt as the Bluebirds created more pressure on offense, and in the 57th minute, Hasan found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, leveling the game at 1-1.
For the next 30 minutes, the teams looked virtually even. Both teams had scoring opportunities but failed to convert on the decisive goal.
That changed, as Tulsa was the team to prevail with a goal in the 87th minute from Billy Nzojyibwami, which put them up 2-1.
The scoring didn’t stop, as Tulsa’s Adam Habib then converted on a penalty kick in the 90th minute to put the game out of reach.
With the win, Tulsa now has 11 points, which leads the Heartland Conference. CASTL, still looking for its first win on the season, sits in sixth place with one point.
The Bluebirds return home to St. Louis for their next game, as CASTL takes on Ozark FC at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8.
